Gradall Forklift Parts - The Gradall excavator was the brainchild of two brothers Koop and ray Ferwerda. The excavator was established In the 1940's through WWII, when there was a shortage of labourers. Partners in a Cleveland, Richardson construction business known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge predicament when lots of men left the workforce and joined the military, depleting available laborers for the delicate grading and finishing work on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to make an equipment which would save their business by making the slope grading work more efficient, less manual and easier.

Their first design model was a device with two beams set on a rotating platform that was affixed on top of a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward which enabled the fixed blade at the end of the beams to push or pull dirt. Shortly improving the very first design, the brothers built a triangular boom to add more strength. As well, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom turn 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the machine to be equipped with either a bucket or a blade attachment.

Gradall launched in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their machinery ever since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to deliver comparable power and high productivity to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the first Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These traditional systems efficiently handled finishing work and grading but had a difficult time competing for high productivity work.

Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to dig and lift materials. With this series, the models were produced together with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics which showed noticeable improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was likewise developed along with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators make use of an operator to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power intended for the job at hand. This makes the operator's overall job easier and likewise saves fuel simultaneously.

Once their XL Series hydraulics came onto the market, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of equipment designed to deal with pavement removal, excavation, demolition as well as several industrial work. Marketability was further improved with their telescoping boom because of its exclusive ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
